One of the problems in our fast paced world is that there are so many distractions. Many of us feel we don't have enough time to accomplish all that we should be doing let alone all that we want to do. It may well be that your attention is broken and you're most likely doing or trying to do more than one task at the same time and neither gets done or gets done poorly.
Attention is a limited resource. It's a lot like time. You only have a limited amount of it and you can spend it wisely or fritter it away.
Attention is also self-reinforcing. How many times have you started a project, really got into the project and gave it your intense concentration. When you pay attention to something that is positive in your life, you are more likely to be absorbed at the task at hand. You are in the flow as they say and you don't pay any attention to time. By the same token, you are wonderfully productive.
On the other hand, if you pay attention to something negative, like slicing your drives in golf, a vicious cycle may continue and you are likely to be down in the dumps before you get off the golf course.
It is fair to say that the more you pay attention to something, the more likely you'll achieve something, for good or for bad. It's up to you whether you want to concentrate on something negative or positive. You're the captain of your ship so watch where you pay attention and cut the negative attention as soon as possible.
Above all, invest your attention on things in your business and in your life that give you the highest returns. For instance, eliminating unnecessary expenses is good for your business accounts but it's not enough. You also need to invest your money for high returns such as outsourcing the design of your new website or hiring someone with the skills who can record your meetings and teleseminar.
My most productive days are those when I am completely focused on what I am trying to achieve and am absorbed in the process of doing it.
Can you tell when your attention is displaced or fractured? Sometimes, I can take a pause and become refocused. What about you?
