I do believe there is some kind of silver ceiling because changing careers and finding a job later in life is very difficult, especially these days. Even so there are people getting interviews and moving on with a new career.
More retirees are deciding to work full or part time. It may be out of necessity or their choice to work gives them a greater sense of meaning and satisfaction to their lives. Whatever the reason, most people look for a career based on time flexibility and their interests.
One way in which you can prepare for your new career is to make sure what you know is current for your industry or profession.
To do this you first need to make sure you are current on your industry's technology. Find out what technologies employers in your industry or profession want to see. Then decide what you need to learn to fill the gap that you don't know about that technology. You may consider adult education class, private tutoring, online classes or college classes.
Be aware that technology terms are often used as keywords to filter the best resumes from electronic databases. If your resume does not have them, no one may ever read anything about you.
I welcome suggestions you may have that worked for you when you changed your career. There is nothing better than sharing successes.
To your successful career change.
