You need to put Article Writing in your business plan. Put it under the heading Marketing because article writing and distribution should be an almost daily activity for you to get your name out to your prospects.
Article writing is a great way to make a name for yourself as an expert in your field, your niche, your profession or your industry. By providing practical information, you can reach specific audiences, build your list and grow your business.
There are four types of articles:
Tips
How to…
Columns
Interviews
When you first thought about starting an Internet based business you figure out who is your target audience. Then you learn more about your target audience, about their problems and concerns. The topics you choose to write about should be those that SOLVE those problems. It is your prospective clients and subscribers who are reading your article in the first place.
Your blog posts should also be written on topics that help solve those problems.
To get visibility you can use both traditional and electronic methods. Traditional journalists, radio hosts,
and producers of traditional media usually find someone to write about or talk to. You become the expert in your field by sending them a copy of the article you wrote. Then send more articles during the month.
To get more visibility you can send your articles to on line article directories. There are thousands of FREE Article Directory sites you can post to. You can send your press releases to on line press directories, on line newspapers, and on line radio directories.
To purchase an ad for radio or the newspapers will cost you hundreds. To put an ad on TV will cost you tens of thousands. Even the costs for online ads start adding up.
The ideal way to get free publicity is to use both the tradition and digital media. If you know you can only find time to use one approach, I advise using the Internet because whatever you put out on the Internet has the possibility of reaching more people. Even better, whatever you put out on the Internet stays there. It may be archived but the information is still accessible. Something you write today will still be available three years from – whether you like it or not.
Article writing is a good way to make yourself known. The articles for Internet directories average 400 words - nothing major. If you have a web site, you can add a link to the website. If you have a blog you can do the same and ask people to subscribe for updates.
Connie Ragen Green, one of my mentors, gives a free teleseminar every Wednesday. She has courses throughout the year about doing business on the Internet. Click here and Opt In so she can give you updates about the teleseminars. You can listen on your computer or on your phone. And they're recorded if you don't make it.
To your continued success,
